Casino not paying out — what to do

If a casino is withholding your winnings, work the problem methodically: get the refusal reason in writing, document everything, and use the right dispute route. This matters most at non-GamStop and offshore casinos, where the UKGC cannot force a payout — so your evidence and your choices do the heavy lifting.

First: get the reason in writing

Ask support to state, in writing, exactly which term you breached and the clause it comes from. A casino that can point to a specific, pre-agreed rule — failed verification, a breached bonus condition, a duplicate account — is behaving differently from one that gives vague or shifting answers. If the reason keeps changing each time you ask, treat that as a red flag rather than a process.

Document everything

Screenshot your account balance, the withdrawal request and its confirmation, the bonus terms as they appeared when you opted in, and every support message with dates and amounts. This record is what actually carries weight in a dispute — capture it before anything is edited or your account is restricted.

Your dispute options

Your route depends on how you paid and where the casino is licensed:

  • Card chargeback: if you funded with a debit or credit card, contact your bank, explain you paid for a service that was not delivered, and ask about a chargeback. The bank then asks the casino to justify the refusal.
  • E-wallet protection: Skrill, Neteller and similar offer limited dispute help — weaker than a card chargeback, but still worth raising.
  • Licence complaint / ADR: find the casino's licensing body (Malta Gaming Authority, Curacao, Anjouan and so on). The MGA runs a formal player-complaint process; Curacao and Anjouan routes are weaker and slower. Submit your documented case to whichever applies.

A UKGC-licensed casino also gives you UK ADR and the Gambling Commission route — which is exactly what an offshore site does not.

The honest truth about offshore (not on GamStop)

Non-GamStop casinos sit outside UK jurisdiction. The UKGC and GamStop cannot force an offshore operator to pay you, UK ADR usually does not apply, and a high score on a comparison site changes none of that. Players regularly report being ignored after a win at offshore sites, and once funds are withheld there is often little anyone can do. That is the risk you carry — which is why a casino's payout track record matters more than its bonus headline.

Reduce the risk next time

Complete identity verification (KYC) early, not at the moment you withdraw. Make a small test withdrawal before depositing larger amounts. Read the bonus max-cashout cap and wagering before you opt in. Keep deposits and withdrawals on the same method where you can. And check what other players reported about a casino paying out before you trust it — see withdrawal times and withdrawal problems.

If gambling is causing harm

A withheld payout is stressful, and chasing it can make things worse. If gambling is affecting your money, mood or relationships, the National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133, and our responsible-gambling tools can help you take a break.

Frequently asked questions

Can a non-GamStop casino legally refuse to pay my winnings?

It can withhold winnings if you genuinely breached its terms — failed KYC, broke bonus rules, or held multiple accounts. What is not acceptable is a vague refusal, shifting reasons, or endless new document requests with no clear clause. Get the reason in writing and judge it against the terms you agreed to.

Will a card chargeback work against a casino?

Sometimes. A chargeback asks your bank to reverse a card payment for a service not delivered. It is more likely to help with clear non-delivery than with a disputed bonus breach, and casinos can contest it — but it is one of the stronger tools UK players have, especially against offshore sites.

Can the UKGC help with an offshore casino?

No. The UK Gambling Commission only regulates UKGC-licensed operators. A non-GamStop or offshore casino is outside its remit, so it cannot force a payout or open a UK ADR case for you. See our non-GamStop risk guide.

Should I keep playing while my withdrawal is stuck?

No. If support pushes you to cancel the withdrawal and keep playing, that is a stall tactic, not help. Leave the balance as a withdrawal request and work the dispute instead. More on this on the withdrawal problems page.

How do I warn other players about a casino that did not pay?

Leave a payout report. On the casinos we track, open the casino's review and add what happened — method, amount band, how long it took, and whether you were paid. Those reports build the payout picture other players see. Start from the payout-tracked list.
